Packatahnas compete at UPA Americup
The West Fargo junior varsity Packatahnas took both first and second place for their high kick and pom routines during the Grand Champion dance competition Feb. 19-21, at the United Performing Association's Americup Competition in Minneapolis.
In addition, they also brought home trophies for first place in high kick, pom and jazz. The members of the JV team are Dana Murray, Emily Burdick, Alexis Amundson, Kylee Walsvik, Chelsey Ranum, Amanda Marinucci, Courtney Grove, Elli Smiler, Brittin Zimmerman, Madison Adams, September Olsen, Abby Hagle, and Taylor Ostern. They are coached by Lynae Opdahl and Hillary Ehlen.
The varsity Packatahnas took first place in their high kick and hip hop divisions. They took second place in pom and fifth place in jazz. The varsity team also was awarded best costume for their kick uniform. Team members are Allison Heinen, Sasha Steichen, Elizabeth Kossan, Amy Matzke, Jordan Reznecheck, Madison Beyer, Crystal Boerger, Alexis Cowley, Kylie Davis, Brooke Freeman, Ashley Gerdes, Brianna Gratz, Katie Groth, Madison Schommer, Amber Swart, Ashley Vangerud, Madison Novacek, Shantell Olson, and Ashley Swart. The varsity Packatahnas are coached by Jordan Jost, Gretchen Stafslien, and Kallista Nilson.
Varsity and JV dancers also competed individually in kick, leap, solo and small group competitions. Reznecheck took first place, and Heinen took second place in the individual kick competition for grades 11-12. The following dancers placed in the grades 9-10 kick competition: Freeman, first; Cowley, second; Gerdes, third; Groth, fourth; and Olson, fifth.
Steichen took second place in grade 11-12 individual leap competition, while Swart and Beyer took first and fourth, respectively for grades 9-10 individual leap. Swart also placed third in grades 9-10 solo.
The West Fargo Elite dance team, a group of 16 sixth, seventh and eighth, graders coached by Claire Moltzan and Jost, earned sixth-place trophies for their pom and jazz routines.
