Sports in Brief: Three Packers ranked in USA Wrestling Top 30

Three West Fargo state champion wrestlers recently were ranked in USA Wrestling Magazine's Top 30.

USA Wrestling magazine ranks several categories, including All Class, Top Senior Class, Top Junior Class and Top Freshman/Sophomore class.

Jordan Shearer is tied for No. 30 in 103-pound All-Class category. Shearer, who will enter the fall as a freshman, is a two-time individual state champion and has twice been named All-Conference with the Packers.

Angelo Shepherd also earned a state title last year, his first with West Fargo but third overall. USA Wrestling ranks the freshman 125-pounder 17th in the Freshman/Sophomore class.

Last, but certainly not least, is West Fargo captain Preston Lehmann. The state title holder and incoming junior is ranked No. 24 in the 171-pound All-Class category, but also is No. 2 in the Freshman/Sophomore class. Lehmann has been named All-EDC for two straight years.

Soccer: WF players represent EDC at East-West Classic

Several Packers helped represent the Eastern Dakota Conference during the first annual Rotary Boys and Girls East-West All Star Classic soccer matches, held Jun 8 in Jamestown.

In the girls game, Andrea Muller, Megan Rotert, Kaylee Lothspeich, Paige Swanson and Hillary Hugelen represented West Fargo on the East Roster. The match was close, ultimately in a 2-2 draw.

On the boys side, the EDC dominated and outshot the West 18-2 before eventually winning 5-1. The game was highlighted by Packer Jade Johnson's hat trick. Other West Fargo players on the roster included Braden Schmid, Austin Dillard and Kody Duncan.

Johnson is a recent West Fargo graduate, and will be attending Jamestown College in the fall.
