The boys hockey team’s woes continued last week, as the team lost both of its games.

On Tuesday, the boys fell to the Grand Forks Central Knights 8-1 on Tuesday, then lost in overtime to the Fargo South-Shanley Bruins 5-4 on Friday.

Packer forward Riley Vareberg scored the first goal of the game on Tuesday (with assists coming from Tyler Berginski and Jake Wasem), but that was where the scoring stopped for West Fargo. The Knights scored two goals in the first period and five in the second to run away with the victory.

Friday’s game proved more interesting, but ended with the same result.

The Pack traded goals with the Bruins for two periods, but seemed outmatched in the third until junior defenseman Jake Hoy scored a goal with less than a minute left to tie it up.

However, Bruin forward James Johanneson scored a goal four minutes into the overtime period to bring the Packers to 1-5-0 on the season.

Wasem led the team with a goal and an assist.

Senior goalie Bailey Vareberg had 25 saves.

The Packers do not play again until next Thursday in a tournament in Fergus Falls.
