Two games, two wins for Packer girls

The West Fargo girls’ basketball won both of their games last week, topping the Fargo Shanley Deacons 61-58 on Tuesday before beating the Fargo Davies Eagles 62-50 on Friday night to move into first place in the Eastern Dakota Conference.

In Tuesday’s matchup, senior guard Christine Baltezore hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute left to break a 58-58 tie and seal the victory for the Packers. Baltezore finished the game with 14 points and five rebounds.

The team was led by junior forward Cassidy Thorson, who had 16 points, nine reboundsand three steals.

Senior guard Lexi Lennon scored 13 points.

As a team, the Packers made 11 shots from behind the arc.

Lennon led all participants with 19 points in Friday’s game against Davies. She also had four steals.

Baltezore scored 17 points, including all five of her free throw attempts, in 35 minutes of play, and junior center Shelby Gustafson complimented her eight points with a game-high 12 rebounds.

The scored 23 of their 62 points off of turnovers, 14 more than their opponent.

The Packers now have a 9-1 record, and they lead the second-place Shanley Deacons by a game and a half.

They will take on the Devils Lake Firebirds at home on Saturday for a 5:15 p.m. game
