Basketball teams lose three of four
It was a tough week for both Packers basketball teams. The boys lost both of their games and the girls, despite beating Moorhead in non-conference play on Thursday, ended their 12-game winning streak on Saturday against Grand Fork-Red River.
The boys team fell to Moorhead on Tuesday by a score of 73-60 before losing to the Grand Forks-Red River Roughriders 58-40 on Friday.
The girls pulled out a 70-58 victory over the Spuds on Thursday, but lost in a nail-biter to the Roughriders on Saturday afternoon by a score of 67-64.
The boys got 19 points out of Travis Schock and 12 points from Justin Heisler in Tuesday’s game, but were overwhelmed by Moorhead forward Aaron Lien and center Brett Lawrence.
Shock also led in the team on Friday with 11 points.
The girls powered past the Spuds largely thanks to Laxi Lennon’s 21 points and Christine Baltezore’s 18 points. Cass Thorson scored seven points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Baltezore, Lennon, Thorson and center Shelby Gustafson all scored in double digits in Saturday’s game, but the team did not get a point from the bench, whereas the Roughriders had 11.
Both teams will play the Wahpeton Huskies at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, with the girls playing on the road and the boys playing at home. Both teams will head to Fargo North on Tuesday, where the girls will play at 5:45 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
