FARGO — The National Weather Service is warning the Fargo-Moorhead region to brace for snow and strong winds that could result in snow accumulations of 6 inches or more in some areas. Also, the wind, with gusts up to 35 mph, could cause a number of nasty issues, including power outages and downed tree branches, the weather service said in a report Tuesday morning, Oct. 9.
WEST FARGO — A 52-year-old West Fargo man accused of sexually abusing a minor for nearly six years has been arrested and is now in the Cass County Jail. Valentin Jose Valenzuela was charged Friday, Oct. 5, in Cass County District Court with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a minor, a Class AA felony.
MOORHEAD — A water tower in Moorhead is a contender in a national contest.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. — A 25-year-old Valley City man died Friday, Oct. 5, in the Barnes County Jail, according to Barnes County State’s Attorney Carl Martineck. Martineck said the inmate, Lonny Levi Bradley, is believed to have died from suicide.
WADENA, Minn. — The bicyclist who died after hitting a car while crossing Highway 10 against a red light on Thursday night, Oct. 4, has been identified as Daniel John Cermack, 39, of Detroit Lakes, Minn. According to the Minnesota State Patrol release, the biker was travelling northbound on Second Street when he crossed Highway 10 and hit the 2009 Chevy Silverado broadside, which was heading west, at 11:15 p.m. The driver, Lyle William Bethel, 67, of Dent and passenger, Elaine Marie Tuma, 68, of Perham were not injured, the release said.
MOORHEAD — Moorhead police announced Thursday evening, Oct. 4, that Morgan Cooley, 16, whose mother faces charges of kidnapping two of her younger children, had turned himself in to police. The teenager, who had been missing for several days, was placed in the protective custody of Clay County Social Services.
CHRISTINE, N.D. — A fire that destroyed an abandoned farmhouse Wednesday night, Oct. 3, just north of here was likely the result of arson. That’s according to Randy Monson, chief of the Christine Volunteer Fire Department. The fire was reported about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday about 4 miles north and a mile east of U.S. Highway 81, said Monson, who added that the building was abandoned long ago and had no electrical service that could have caused a fire.
MOORHEAD — Police here are asking the public’s assistance in finding 16-year-old Morgan Cooley, the missing son of a Moorhead woman accused of kidnapping two of her own children. Morgan Cooley was not located in the house at 1213 Main Avenue in Moorhead when police executed a search warrant there on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and found Izetta Cooley, 39, with four of her children.
