Holidays are for sharing with family and Easter Sunday is among those that top the list. Growing up I can remember starting the day with Mass (actually the week with a series of church services in conjunction with Holy Week) and then having relatives over for a huge noon meal followed by lots of visiting and later dessert because everyone was too full after the meal to want any.
A 20-year veteran of the furniture industry, Dan Holte just recently joined Conlin’s Furniture as a member of their sales team at their 909 45th St. S., Fargo location. Holte said he is extremely excited about his new association and the fact the business is stressing American-made in their promotion efforts. “Customers are tiring of imports. We have people come up to us and ask ‘do you have anything American-made?’”

One evening last week I was looking for a side dish to serve with chicken I was going to bake in the oven. Earlier in the week I had purchased sweet cream and real butter for a new fettuccini alfredo recipe I had run across and wanted to try. Having several other fantastic fettuccini recipes already on file, this one appealed to me because it had only three base ingredients in addition to the pasta and the sauce didn’t require a lot of simmer time and stirring attention.
What a difference a year can make. Especially when it comes to the weather. Last year at this time we were experiencing downright balmy temperatures reaching the 70-degree mark. Definitely not the case this year. With spring officially upon us today, winter continues to rear its unrelentless head, bombarding us with weekly snow and wind blasts and little temperature relief. According to longer-range reports, we can expect two more weeks of the colder stuff before a much anticipated warm up that hopefully will pave the way for continual improvement.
Winter reared its ugly head again for the third weekend in a row raising havoc with roadways, visibility and forcing the cancellation of schools resulting in a much welcomed snow day for the students. The only problem this time, the high winds and cold sub-zero temperatures were unwelcome negatives for those wanting or needing to spend time outdoors. A white snow wall hit West Fargo early Sunday evening, greatly reducing visibility to almost zero before subsiding a bit making roadways somewhat negotiable in town.
West Fargo City Commissioners went on record Monday night, unanimously approving an extension of the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) programs for five West Fargo businesses as well as New Industry Exemptions, all for the year 2013. With St. Patrick’s Day Sunday Irish recipes have been flying fast and furious, some a little too complicated for my liking. Wearing the green or not, nothing says it better on the day than a huge bowl of homemade Irish Stew accompanied by its traditional counterpart Irish Soda Bread. Even better, is the relative ease involved with preparing each recipe, relying on a few simple ingredients already more than likely in your fridge or on your pantry shelves.
Each year, at least for the past several, The Southeast Fargo Regional DUI Task Force in conjunction with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), have been stepping up their efforts in early March to deter impaired drivers. This year will be no exception with an increased campaign to keep individuals from driving under the influence set to begin Friday, March 15 and continue through Saturday, March 23.
