II have a huge folder of new recipes I've clipped from various magazines and other print sources that I turned to recently in a quest to come up with "something a little more out of the ordinary" to serve at mealtime. The first is a "Savory Cheddar Bread" recipe which reminded me a lot of my homemade beer bread, only minus the beer in favor of egg and milk instead. Served fresh from the oven, the end result was cheesy and delicious with the thickly cut slices disappearing quickly slathered with additional butter.
Family and friends are banding together for a special benefit event for Brian "Bommer" Bommersbach that will take place Thursday, July 25, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the El Zagal Shrine Center, 1429 3rd St. N. A picnic dinner of hot dogs, chips and baked beans will be served and free will donations will be accepted. There will also be a silent auction, bake sale, raffle and entertainment by Lake Country Band.
West Fargo City Commissioners voted unanimously Monday night to agree with the project concept and approved a plan for the reconstruction of 7th Avenue East from 17th Street East to 45th Street.
The traffic signal located at the Main Avenue and Sheyenne Street intersection will soon receive an update that will result in a protected left turn arrow that will reduce the amount of time motorists will have to wait to make their turn onto Sheyenne Street. A new signal head will be installed on the master arm and work completed on the inside of the wiring cabinet to facilitate the change which is expected to be completed in about two weeks time, according to Chris Brungardt, assistant public works director overseeing the project.

Now in its fourth season, the increasingly popular Cruise Night will be filling the north end of Sheyenne Street again Thursday evening featuring an array of classic vehicles. Hosted by the F-M Toppers Car Club and the city of West Fargo, the show will run from 5 to 9 p.m.

State and local dignitaries joined Caterpillar officials Monday for a celebration marking the company's five-year anniversary milestone of acquiring the remanufacturing business in West Fargo, as well as completion of a major $50 million expansion to the plant at 1262 W. Main Ave. Caterpillar Reman Drivetrain LLC produces remanufactured drive train components for large off-highway trucks and other mining equipment, including final drives, transmission, torque converters and steering clutches.
West Fargo City Commissioners received a first glimpse of the 2014 budget Monday night that revealed good news in that it doesn't show any tax levy increase. City Administrator Jim Brownlee presented the very preliminary figures to commissioners Monday night. Brownlee said the budget proposal includes hiring four employees in the police department -- three officers and a clerical position; and two each in the public works and sanitation areas.
