WEST FARGO HIGH RISE Thursday, May 16: Barbecue chicken, cheesy potatoes, corn, orange Jello with mandarin oranges and topping. Friday, May 17: Pork chop in gravy, smashed potatoes, beets, cake with strawberries and topping. Monday, May 20: Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, country trio, pineapple. Tuesday, May 21: Warm pulled pork sandwich, rotini supreme pasta salad, calico beans, warm cinnamon apples. Wednesday, May 22: Chicken alfredo with penne pasta, carrots, romaine lettuce salad, garlic breadstick, fruit cup.
The Three Rivers Garden Club of West Fargo will meet Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. The program will consist of a Plant Auction to benefit the West Fargo Public Library. It will be held in Joan Bachman's garden at 515 Grieson Ave., West Fargo. Everyone interested in gardening is welcome to attend.
The annual Arbor Day observance will take place Thursday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m. at Maplewood Park located in the 1200 block of 17th Avenue East. This year's honoree is longtime West Fargo resident Larry Lubben who will have an Oak Tree planted on his behalf. Brandy Sellden's sixth-grade class from Cheney Middle School will be helping with the planting. Lubben's granddaughter Olivia is a member of the class. The Tree City USA will also be presented by Sharon Bartels of the North Dakota Forest Service.
"Incrediworld Amazement Park: A Thrill Ride Through God's Creation" is the theme for this year's Vacation Bible School being held Sunday, June 2 through Thursday, June 6 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 1005 1st St., West Fargo. There will also be a free evening meal offered for the entire family of those registered served from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Each evening includes a Bible lesson, crafts, singing, recreation time and a snack. A VBS program will be held on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The West Fargo Park District will be hosting the Shadow Wood Park Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, May 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Shadow Wood Park, 3545 4th St E, West Fargo. Shadow Wood Park features a splash pad, playground equipment, outdoor fitness equipment, basketball courts and a gazebo. Park staff will give tours and refreshments will be provided. The splash pad will officially open at 5 p.m. and then operate seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information log onto wfparks.org or call 433-5360.
The West Fargo Park District is hosting a Bike and Kite Day on Sunday, May 19 from 2 to 4 p.m., at Rendezvous Park, 1055 32nd Ave. W., West Fargo. Activities will include kite flying, games and a Bike Rodeo. Refreshments will be served. Free kites will be given out to the first 100 kid's courtesy of Luther Family Ford. Mike Gee with Wings on Strings Kite Club will be flying large, colorful kites. The West Fargo Police Department will also be sponsoring a Bike Rodeo where youth can learn how to ride their bikes safely and practice using hand signals.
West Fargo High School guitar students will present their Spring Guitar Concert on Thursday evening, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the WFHS Theater. Fifty student guitarists as well as several adult students will be performing. Among the pieces on the program will be "Yellow Submarine," "Stand By Me," "My Girl,, "Iris," and "American Pie." The WFHS guitar program is under the direction of Mark Berntson.
Austin Albrecht, son of John & Lori Albrecht, West Fargo, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and will be recognized at a Court of Honor ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19th, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Austin is a senior at West Fargo High School and a member of Troop 274 with Steve Fischer as Scoutmaster. His Eagle Scout project was constructing 17 wooden receptacle holders for Bonanzaville.
The West Fargo Police Department will be hosting Coffee with a Cop on Thursday, May 16, at Sheyenne Crossings on the corner of Sheyenne Street and Thirteenth Avenue. Shane Orn, a patrol officer for the Police Department who has recently moved into a DEA Task Force position will be the featured speaker.
