The Mapleton Fire Department will be holding their annual Street Dance fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Hagge's Bar & Grill, Mapleton. The band 24 Seven will be providing the music. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and remain open until 1 a.m. There is a $5 cover charge.All proceeds will benefit the Mapleton Fire Department.
Bethany Retirement Living will host a motorcycle run by the North Dakota Patriot Guard at 6:30 pm on Friday, Aug. 23. The event will be held at Bethany on University, 201 Univ. Dr. S., Fargo. Patriot Guard members will ride to Bethany to acknowledge veterans and spouses of veterans who reside at Bethany on University. American flags will be distributed to veterans and spouses. Residents will visit with Patriot Guard members and view their motorcycles. Dozens of riders are expected.
The eighth annual Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day will take place on Thursday, Aug. 8, at area Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill's including the West Fargo location at 1110 13th Ave. Participating locations will donate $1 or more of the proceeds from the day's Blizzard sales and Blizzard coupon sales to Children's Miracle Network benefitting Sanford Children's.
The West Fargo Middle Schools' 2013-2014 dance season is in full swing as the team prepares for a trip to a national competition in Florida. The West Fargo Mystikix dance team has qualified for the Universal Dance Association, (UDA), National Dance Team Championship with competition set for February in Orlando, Fla.
Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church will be hosting the last concert of its summer worship and music series on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. Featured performers are Friends and Neighbors Bluegrass Band. Fellowship time and dessert will follow the concert that is free and open to the public.Maple Sheyenne is located at 8711 40th Ave. N., rural Harwood.
We would like to thank everyone who shared their time and contributions to support Brian Bommersbach and family at his benefit held on July 24. Community members from West Fargo, Fargo Moorhead area, Carrington, Glyndon, Grand Forks , Valley City, and Hunter all came together in this time of need. Brian continues his battle with Acute Leukemia and his stem cell transplant is scheduled on August 13 in Denver, Colo. The donated funds will help defray the family's medical and travel expenses.
With North Dakota's 63rd Legislative Session in the rear view mirror, legislators are now focusing on the execution of the legislation that was passed during the session and preparing themselves for the 64th Session. Key among the activities to accomplish both of these tasks is the work of the interim committees.
The NDSU Distance and Continuing Education Office hired Julie Portillo as the new marketing specialist this July. Portillo was formerly the sales and marketing coordinator at Bonanzaville for one year after graduating from the University of Minnesota Crookston with a dual degree in Marketing and Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. "The Distance and Continuing Education Office at NDSU has several new, upcoming projects I am excited to become a part of and to share with the Fargo Moorhead community," explained Portillo on her new position.
Dr. Dan Levin, owner of Eyesite Family Eyecare, located in Costco at 750 23rd Ave E., West Fargo, has announced the addition of Anna Miller, OD. Dr. Miller obtained her undergraduate degree from Bemidji State University, and graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry. She has a special interest in pediatric and family eye care, contact lenses and ocular disease. Miller will also be establishing a dry eye clinic. Sue Olson has joined First International Bank & Trust as a Loan Assistant at their West Fargo branch, located at 1350 13th Ave. E. A native of Bottineau, Olson moved to West Fargo 21 years ago. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, going to the lake and scrapbooking. Olson has spent many years as an active team parent of the Packers hockey team and is also a foster home for the MN Sheltie Rescue. She has three sheltie dogs that she is taking care of in her home.
